Prisoners union
The prisoners' union is used to describe various international organizations that stand up for the rights of prisoners . The demand for workers' rights by prisoners is controversial due to the legal situation of deprivation of liberty and the deprivation of civil rights.
history
The first prisoner unions were founded almost simultaneously in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
- The German Prisoners' Union (DGG) was founded on August 15, 1968 by Alfons Bitterwolf in order to “protect fellow citizens who have committed criminal offenses against arbitrariness in detention or danger after their release”.
- The Austrian prisoners' union was founded in 1968 by Ernst Walter Stummer and "prohibited by the association authorities".
- The Swiss prisoners' union was also founded in 1968.
The United Prisoners Union , founded in 1970 , a prisoners union of the prison reformer Popeye Jackson, is considered the first prisoners' union in the USA .
On May 21, 2014, the prisoners' union / nationwide organization (GG / BO) was founded by inmates Oliver Rast and Mehmet-Sadik Aykol in the Tegel prison .
