Combat value

As fighting value in military affairs a measure is referred to the effectiveness of military units and associations is estimated of military equipment and vehicles such as warships or tanks or military buildings and installations such as bunkers in relation to a particular combat situation, including for example, type, strength and behavior of the expected enemy, environmental conditions or assumed to be fulfilled order .

Today, the somewhat broader term operational value is usually used, which does not only refer to combat situations and is also used by civil organizations such as the fire service. The criteria which are used to assess the combat value vary; they depend strongly on the object to be assessed and can differ significantly for identical or similar objects.

In the identification of the operational situation display, a troop is additionally marked with a marking in green i.e. ready for use with a value above 90, orange above 60 conditionally ready for use, red below 40 and therefore no longer ready for use. The purpose of this marking is to inform the assessor about the condition of the troops when considering the situation and not to cause an incorrect assessment of the situation through the purely tactical sign.

The terms combat strength and operational readiness is a percentage measured value in percent that relates to the condition of the troops with regard to material equipment and their technical readiness for action , personnel readiness according to strength, training related to the post and time experience on the post in connection with the assessments the supervisor, the supply situation for fuel, ammunition and other supplies, namely food and the moral commitment . This disregards the comparison to environmental conditions such as terrain and weather or an expected enemy in contrast to the combat value.

When comparing the terms combat strength and combat value, the combat strength of a tank battalion can be high if the combat vehicles and crews are fully operational with a complete provision situation, but the combat value would only be available to a limited extent in an extensive forest area, and not at all in the high mountains.
