Apricots in freezer bags

Freezer bags are food-safe bags made of cold-resistant plastic (usually polyethylene ) that are used to freeze and store frozen and fresh foods such as raw and cooked meat , fruit and vegetables. They should enclose the frozen food tightly to prevent freezer burn . With classic freezer bags, the use of a vacuum sealer is recommended , modern freezer bags with a special closure make the use of such a device only conditionally useful.

The shelf life of frozen (-18 ° C) frozen food in the freezer bag is two to twelve months on average, depending on the type.

Modern freezer bags (so-called cook-freezer bags ) are also heat-resistant, so that the frozen food can remain in the bag for defrosting (in the microwave or in a water bath).

Freezer bags are also suitable for carrying certain items (e.g. ointments, creams, liquids) in hand luggage when traveling by air.
