The Yellow Castle in Sonneborn stands on a peninsula on the river Nesse .

The castle has stood on the aforementioned peninsula of the river Nesse since 1653. The place and the castle once belonged to the neighboring von Wangenheim family . In 1945 parts of the complex (the " slate castle ") were demolished. The castle has been privately owned since the fall of the Wall . Apart from a new roof, the building is falling into disrepair.
