The slate castle was located in Sonneborn in the Gotha district in Thuringia .

The slate castle stood in the Nessen lowlands and was a low castle in the arable farming area east of Gotha .

history

The Sonneborn castle was constantly rebuilt from 1100, so that the slate castle developed over time. What was left was a beautiful, slate-covered moated castle with four wings and a round tower. The owner was the von Wangenheim family . They were expropriated, arrested and imprisoned after 1945. The slate lock was demolished on the basis of Order No. 209 of the Soviet Military Administration in Germany . The remains of the foundation wall of the corner tower and the moat have been preserved .
