Gellerupparken is Denmark's largest residential complex and is managed by Brabrand Boligforening . The rental apartments are located west of Åbyhøj and Aarhus and north of Silkeborgvej and Lake Braband Sø . It shares the zip code with Brabrand , which is west of Gellerupparken.

The four to eight-storey prefabricated buildings were built between 1968 and 1972 and contain 1,776 apartments. Their size varies between one and five rooms. In connection with the blocks there are the Nordgårdskolen ( Nordhofschule ), the Gellerup library , the Gellerupper church and the shopping centers City Vest and the market halls Bazar Vest in the north.

The Gellerrupparken is known for its high proportion of foreign residents. In 1993 the proportion of foreigners was 68%. In 2003 it had risen to 84%. This has led to the district often being viewed as a ghetto . At the same time, it was characterized by a relatively high crime rate for several years , which, however, has decreased in recent years, so that it is now at the normal level for the Aarhus region.

In 2003 Braband Boligforening introduced a new policy for Gellerupparken, which included that families could terminate their homes if their children were involved in criminal activities within the district. However, 3 families of juvenile offenders have announced that they will file a complaint with the Vestre Landsret .
