history

In 1944 the Structural Unit for the Protection of the Vilnius Railway in the Baltic Railway District began its activity . As an armed security structure, it protected railway infrastructure, train stations, bridges and other facilities, freight, cargo and assets. There were subdivisions in the railway network on the Vilnius railway line in Lithuania and in Kaliningrad . After Lithuania's independence in 1992, the Railways Protection Department was reorganized into a paramilitary guard (based on Resolution No. 4 of the Director General of the State Enterprise “Lithuanian Railways”) . Over the years the office has had different names. On June 6, 2007 it became UAB Gelsauga , a subsidiary of the "Lithuanian Railways".
