Codex Manesse, Mr Geltar

"Herr Geltar " is the name of a minstrel and traveling singer of unknown origin and biography who lived until the middle of the 13th century .

Life

Due to the mention of the Lords of Mergestorf , today's Lower Austrian Merkersdorf in one of his poems, there could have been a relationship to this geographical area.

Works

It is listed on sheet 320 of the “ Great Heidelberger Liederhandschrift ” ( Codex Manesse ). His works from the late period of this art form are in the tradition of Neidhart von Reuenthal . Sometimes these are quite crude verses, which parody the seclusion and unworldliness of the minstrel.
