The parish cemetery of Engelskirchen is close to the Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul . It contains a memorial for war dead. His address is: In the parish garden. It is one of eight cemeteries in the Engelskirchen community.

history

The cemetery was inaugurated in 1897. This closed the old cemetery below the church. A first expansion was made in 1914, followed by a second in the early 1970s. Today the cemetery covers an area of ​​19,500 square meters on a park-like area with 2,760 grave sites. A hall was built in 1972 for the organization of funeral services.

A war cemetery for 371 dead from the First and Second World Wars was laid out near the entrance . Among the dead were 59 from the former Soviet Union, 5 Italians, 4 Poles, one Yugoslav and one of unknown nationality. A small chapel was built to commemorate over 300 victims who died in the bombing raids on Engelskirchen on March 19 and 28, 1945.

The cemetery is tended by the community. According to the law on the preservation of the graves of victims of war and tyranny , it should remain in place for the long term.
