history

Administration building of the housing association Marzahner Tor

The housing cooperative was founded on June 17, 1979 as a workers housing cooperative (AWG) through the initiative of VEB Elektroprojekt und Anlagebau Berlin . In the first ten years, the workers' housing cooperative developed into a cooperative with material and financial support from the VEB EAB as a sponsor. Around 5500 apartments were built according to the requirements of the GDR at that time . Of the more than 9,000 employees at VEB Elektroprojekt und Anlagebau Berlin-Marzahn, around 1,000 employees and their families were provided with apartments. The tasks of the workers' housing cooperative at the time consisted of maintaining the apartments so that the users feel comfortable in their apartments and the apartments are continuously inhabited. The maintenance work for the apartments is carried out by the craftsmen and caretakers.

On September 19, 1990, the workers' housing cooperative became the non-profit housing cooperative Marzahner Tor eG, and this was also entered in the cooperative register on November 12, 1990. The housing association manages a total of 5502 apartments. In addition, the housing association in Blumberg, in the Barnim district, manages eight city villas with 62 apartments and the associated commercial space.
