Together with the disabled

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The association together with disabled people e. V. aims to help people with disabilities and their relatives out of isolation and to integrate them into society.

history

The association was founded on January 21, 1980 in Rodgau . The idea for this came from the parish of St. Nikolaus under the direction of Pastor Wendelin Meissner, the KJG-Jügesheim and Caritas . At the time of its inception there were around 50 members, around 20 of whom were disabled. In 2018 the association had almost 650 members, 157 of them with disabilities.

The club's initial activities included summer, autumn and New Year's Eve camps in the club's own Heckelmannmühle.

Heckelmann mill

The Heckelmannmühle is an old building in Steinsberg near Limburg / Diez , where millers and bakers used to practice their craft. It is close to nature and belongs to the municipality of Steinsberg / Diez. The mill was acquired by the association Together with the Disabled and, among others, converted to make it suitable for the disabled by students from the Georg Büchner School . There are wheelchair ramps, an elevator and specially equipped bathrooms. In 2017 the Heckelmannmühle was sold by the association.

activities

The association organizes weekly group lessons, every Friday there was a swim in the Heusenstammer swimming pool followed by a stay in the "Zwitscherstubb" in Weiskirchen. Excursions were also organized. Activities include group lessons, swimming, disabled sports, leisure time, therapeutic riding, psychological support, breakfast meetings, a regulars' table, a seminar for siblings of disabled children and excursions.

The association attracted national attention through the annual staging of the major event " 24-hour run " on the sports grounds in Rodgau-Dudenhofen .

The event, which aims to animate and motivate people to donate to social projects through a sporting performance, has been established for the second weekend in September since 1983. The event will start on Saturdays at 12:00 p.m. and, if the weather permits, it will end on Sunday noon.

"Emmanuel" residential complex for the disabled

On August 31, 2001, Karl Cardinal Lehmann laid the foundation stone for the “Emmanuel” residential complex for the disabled in the heart of Rodgau-Jügesheim . Since then, all rooms in "Haus Emmanuel" have been occupied. Shops are in the basement.
