The school currently has 12 teachers, a school social worker and a volunteer art therapist and volunteer help in teaching German as a second language, as well as around 20 open full-time employees. Since the school year 2012/13 the community elementary school Antwerpener Straße has two and a half classes with around 200 pupils. In addition to German and German as a second language , English and Turkish are taught in a Turkish course.

history

The school building designed by the Cologne city building inspector Friedrich Bolte was completed in 1909. In 1910 the school was started as the “Catholic elementary school on Genter and Antwerpener Strasse”. The building was almost completely destroyed during the war, but was rebuilt after the war. As part of the reconstruction, the gable roof was replaced by a flat roof.

Musical focus / weekly celebration

Music and presentation is a major focus of the school. This is particularly evident from the weekly celebration that takes place in the auditorium on Fridays . All students, the entire teaching staff and usually a large number of the students' parents take part in the weekly celebration. Singing songs together is an integral part of the weekly celebration. Then individual children or whole classes can present lesson content such as songs, dances, poems, small plays, educational posters, etc. In this way, on the one hand, the learning outcomes of the children are perceived and appreciated, and on the other hand, the children are introduced to a culture of presentation at an early stage , which is of growing importance these days. In addition, the parents are included and involved in school life. There is no obligation for the students to perform or recite anything on stage. Many of the performances are made on the initiative of small groups of students or even individual students.

Support association

The development association was founded in 1991 and aims to provide grants for activities such as school trips, theater visits, afternoon workshops, project weeks, teaching materials and the like. In addition, modernization measures in the schoolyard and the creation of a school garden were only possible with the help of the friends' association.
