Genetic density
The gene density describes the ratio of the number of genes in a genome and the genome size .
properties
The gene density decreases with the amount of non-coding DNA in the genome, which has a regulatory function for chromatin condensation . A low gene density indicates a high proportion of regulatory DNA sequences . With increasing complexity of a living being, the gene density decreases, on the one hand due to longer genes , on the other hand due to more regulatory sequences.
