In the Bundeswehr, the general of the Army Reconnaissance Forces is the position of the officer in the rank of colonel responsible for certain issues relating to troop training and equipment for the Army Reconnaissance Force . The post has been filled with Colonel Ralph Malzahn since September 2017 .

The position of General of the Army Reconnaissance Forces is connected to the position of Commander in the Training Area of the Army Reconnaissance Force. Corresponding positions also exist for the other branches of the army .

The generals of the military branches are always a service position that is usually held by the commander of the training facility for the respective military branch (exceptions are the general of the telecommunications force). The rank of a general is not necessarily associated with this position; for all smaller branches of the army, the respective generals of the branches of service have the rank of colonel, and for the larger branches of the army the rank of brigadier general. Depending on the actual rank, the address is either Mr. Colonel or Mr. General.

From the formation of the Army Reconnaissance Force on October 1, 2007, Colonel Karl-Ernst Graf Strachwitz was general of the Army Reconnaissance Force. The formal surrender appeal took place on March 20, 2015, at which Colonel Graf Strachwitz handed over command to his successor Colonel Norbert Hähnlein. On this occasion, Brigadier General Norbert Wagner renamed the Army Reconnaissance Force Training Center to the "Army Reconnaissance Force Training Area". On September 22, 2017, Colonel Ralph Malzahn took command. His predecessor, Colonel Norbert Hähnlein, retired after 41 years of service at a solemn roll call.
