General of the fighter pilot

General der Kampfflieger (L In 2) was an agency within the German Air Force .

History of the agency

The office emerged in 1941 from the inspection of combat and dive fighter pilots (so called from late 1939 / early 1940). The inspection of combat and dive fighter planes was first subordinated to General E.g. V. at the Inspector General of the Air Force, in April 1940 the subordination changed to the head of training. From autumn 1941, the office was then subordinate to the Chief of the General Staff of the Air Force .

The forerunner of the agency was formed in 1934 as the Inspection of the Fighters (Fl In 2) and renamed the Inspection of the Fighters (L In 2) in 1937 . At the beginning of 1939 another name change took place in the inspection of combat, dive and reconnaissance pilots (L In 2). These inspections were initially subordinate to the Inspector General of the Luftwaffe and from February 1939, as later again from April 1940, to the head of training.

The agency consisted of around 145 posts, including two general staff officers , 28 officers and 2 engineers. At the beginning of March 1945 the strength consisted of only 81 people, including 22 officers. The general of the fighter pilots existed as an office until the end of the war.
