In the Bundeswehr, the general of the engineer force is the position of the officer responsible for specific issues relating to the training and equipment of the engineer force , usually with the rank of brigadier general .

The position of general of the pioneer troops is connected with the commander of the pioneer school and technical college of the army for structural engineering . Corresponding positions also exist for the other branches of the army . Since this is a service position, a colonel is sometimes a "general of" the respective military branch . The salutation Mr. General or Mr. Colonel is common; the salutation Mr. General of the Pioneer Troop is unusual because it is not a rank.

The name should not be confused with the rank of General of the Pioneers , which existed in the Wehrmacht .
