From 1886 to 2006 the share was listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange. In 1907 the Europäische Reiseversicherung AG was founded.

After the loss of numerous companies in Eastern Europe as a result of the Second World War, Generali started again in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe with the entry into the Hungarian market in 1989 - controlled by Generali Holding Vienna AG. For further development in this region, the CEE agendas were handed over to the parent company in 2007.

Generali and Erste Allgemeine were merged in the 1990s under the uniform "Generali" brand. In 2004, Interunfall Versicherung was also integrated into Generali. In 2007 Generali Holding Vienna AG took over the majority of BAWAG PSK Versicherung AG.

Generali Austria has been part of the new region Austria, CEE and Russia since 2018.

The history of the Generali Group Austria is documented in its historical archive in Vienna, Landskrongasse 1–3, and is accessible to interested parties.
