Generation interval

Under generation interval (Engl. Generation interval) most often refers to the time interval between the occurrence of major new features (for example, progeny significant new information) in a direct sequence.

In the areas belonging to the biological sciences in a broader sense , the term describes the time interval that a species needs until offspring are born. The average age of the parents when the children were born is also used as the unit of measurement in this context. In relation to individual individuals, the term is also used, for example in animal breeding, for the period between the birth of a single parent and the birth of their offspring.

In the theory of infection , the terms generation time and generation interval can be used synonymously. They denote the period of time until pathogenic microorganisms have multiplied to such an extent that after the appearance of signs of illness in a first person, signs of illness also appear in a second ( infected by the first ).

In computing , the term describes the frequency with which a router announces changes in a network. This fact (minimumLSPGerenerationInterval) is described in ISO 10589.

In astronomy , the term is used to describe the possible chronological sequence of the (new) appearance of a spherical universe .

In the historical sciences , the term generation interval is used as a possible subdivision of historical processes.
