Sexually Transmitted Infections , or sex for short . Transm. Infect. , is a scientific journal published by BMJ-Verlag on behalf of the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV and the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine . The journal was founded in 1925 under the name British Journal of Venereal Diseases , changed it to Genitourinary Medicine in 1985, and then to Sexually Transmitted Infections in 1998 . It appears seven times a year. Works are published that deal with all aspects of sexually transmitted diseases and illnesses caused by HIV.

The impact factor in 2014 was 3,401. According to the statistics of the ISI Web of Knowledge , the journal with this impact factor ranks 25th out of 78 journals in the Infectious Diseases category.
