history

Today's Geno Bank Essen emerged from several cooperative banks that were founded in the area of today's city of Essen and the adjacent Hattingen-Niederwenigern: The Dumberger Savings and Loan Association eG zu Niederwenigern , which was launched on November 22, 1886 and on Altenessener Kreditanstalt, founded on July 25, 1896, and the Credit-Verein zu Werden, founded on November 16, 1896 in the same year .

The Niederwenigern cooperative bank later relocated its headquarters to the neighboring Altendorf (Ruhr) and in 1954 changed its company name to Savings and Loan Fund Altendorf Ruhr eGmbH . In 1963, the Altessener Kreditanstalt and Volksbank Werden merged to form Volksbank Essen . When Altendorf was incorporated into Essen in 1970, the bank there changed its name to the Essen savings and loan association . There were two competing cooperative banks in Essen. In 1990 and 1992 further name changes followed in Essener Genossenschafts-Bank and Genossenschafts-Bank Essen .

In 1999 the two competing banks merged to form Geno-Volks-Bank Essen eG . In 2008 the name was changed again to today's Geno Bank Essen eG .
