The Genossenschaft Museumsbahn Emmental (GME) is a special purpose association of the two organizations Verein Historische Eisenbahn Emmental (VHE) and Verein Dampfbahn Bern . The two associations Dampflokfreunde Langenthal and Club Salon Bleu , which were also involved in founding the cooperative, have now merged with the VHE.

history

The cooperative was founded so that tourist trains could be resumed on the lines from Sumiswald- Grünnen to Huttwil and to Wasen on the Ramsei-Huttwil railway line that were closed by BLS .

The cooperative intended to take over the concession for the route between Sumiswald and Huttwil. It turned out, however, that an independent, professional company is more suitable as a railway infrastructure company than a special-purpose association. As a result, the Emmentalbahn GmbH (ETB) was founded.

In December 2013, the infrastructure concession for the Sumiswald – Wasen and Sumiswald – Huttwil routes was transferred to ETB. This must keep the routes open for network access, especially for freight traffic and vehicle transfers. This obligation is met by the federal government and the canton.

The Museumbahn Emmental Cooperative has been running regular steam train journeys on the Sumiswald – Huttwil route since 2014. From summer 2017 it will even be offering trips on the Sumiswald-Grünen-Wasen section, which has not been used continuously for several years.
