Genshinenryō Kōgyō KK ( Japanese 原子 燃料 工業 株式会社 , Genshinenryō Kōgyō Kabushiki-gaisha , English Nuclear Fuel Industries, Ltd. (NFI) ) is a Japanese nuclear fuel manufacturer headquartered in Tokyo . The company's registered capital is one billion yen . The shareholders are Westinghouse Electric Company (52%) and Sumitomo Denki Kōgyō and Furukawa Denki Kōgyō (each 24%).
The company operates two fuel assembly plants. The plant in Kumatori ( Osaka prefecture ) produces nuclear fuel for pressurized water reactors with a capacity of 284 tons of uranium per year. Around 350 people are employed there. Around 250 people work at the plant in Tōkai (Ibaraki) . Nuclear fuels for boiling water reactors (capacity: 250 tons of uranium per year) and for gas-cooled high-temperature reactors (capacity: 400 kilograms of uranium per year) are produced here.
