Geographensee

The Geographensee is a small lake on the Fildes Peninsula of King George Iceland , the largest of the South Shetland Islands . It is the western of two closely spaced lakes in the very southwest of the peninsula (the eastern one is the Jura Lake ) and drains over the Geographenbach in a north-westerly direction to the eponymous Geographers Cove (labeled on the German map from 1984 as "Geographenbucht"), while the Jura lake drains in the opposite direction to the Fildes Strait .

As part of two German expeditions to the Fildes Peninsula in 1981/82 and 1983/84 under the direction of Dietrich Barsch (Geographical Institute of the University of Heidelberg ) and Gerhard Stäblein (Geomorphological Laboratory of the Free University of Berlin ), the lake and numerous others until then unnamed geographic features of the Fildes peninsula and renamed the Scientific Committee on Antarctic research (Scientific Committee on Antarctic research, SCAR) reported.
