The Fildes Strait is a strait between King George Island and Nelson Island in the South Shetland Islands . There are a few small islands in the strait, such as Heidelberg Island .
This sea route has been known to seal hunters since around 1822. At that time the strait was still called Field's Strait . It is named after the British seal hunter Robert Fildes (1793–1827).
