The Geological Museum in Munich is a publicly accessible part of the Bavarian State Collection for Paleontology and Geology . The museum shows the creation of the earth on 450 m² . The focus is on the formation of the Alps and the formation of fossil fuels .

The State Collection is one of five research institutions in the Bavarian State Natural Science Collections .

The museum is located in the building of the Institute for General and Applied Geology of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich at Luisenstrasse 37 in the Munich art area . There is no reference to the museum on the outside of the building. It is open Monday through Friday and some Sundays with free admission.
