Geopedia is a digital travel guide developed by Michael Schön .

principle

Geopedia is a combination of Wikipedia and OpenStreetMap like Google Maps . If you enter your location or name a specific location, points in the area are displayed on a map and the contributions from Wikipedia are listed. The entries are sorted by distance up to a radius of ten kilometers.

use

The first version of Geopedia could only be called up via the browser; since the beginning of 2016 it has also been available as a smartphone app . Geopedia is free and available in over 150 languages. Recognition for the application comes from the USA , where Russell Smith explains the “invention” in a YouTube video.

author

Michael Schön was born in 1976 and lives in Munich. He studied computer science at the University of Passau and during his studies he developed the network for cultural hosts, which generations have been exchanging ideas about since then. He started developing the “Geopedia” app for himself from 2012, as he had missed such a program while traveling.
