Kaisberg Geopath

The Kaisberg Geopfad is a circular hiking trail around the Kaisberg southwest of Herdecke .

The hiking trail was completed in mid-2008, financed by a cooperation between the city of Hagen , the Ruhr Regional Association , the Association for the Promotion of the Ruhr Area Geopark and the company Wikinger Reisen as sponsor. The circular route is 5.5 km long, has an altitude of 90 meters and begins at the Werdringen moated castle with an orientation board. From there signs with the inscription Geopfad show the way. Nine branches, known as geostops , lead to geological outcrops and sights, which are explained in more detail by information boards. For example, there are reports about the Kaysbergerbank colliery or about the origin of the building material for the Ruhr Viaduct , as well as about the mining of hard coal or visible tree fossils in the sandstone.

The Geopfad Kaisberg is a section of the geotourist hiking route GeoRoute Ruhr - through the valley of the black gold in the Geopark Ruhr area .
