The Georg Büchner School , GBS for short, is an integrated comprehensive school with a musical elementary level in Frankfurt am Main - Bockenheim . The school is named after the writer, social critic and scientist Georg Büchner .
location
The Georg Büchner School is located in the Bockenheim district in the middle of the Kuhwaldsiedlung , a residential area. The school has good transport links to tram line 17 and to the S-Bahn lines S3, S4, S5 and S6 via the Westbahnhof . The Messe Frankfurt site extends to the south .
School profile
In the Georg Büchner School, children are taught from the first to the 10th grade. For the children in the elementary level - grades 1 to 4 - there is special musical support and a wide range of all-day care options. There are also childcare options for secondary school students. The school has a full-day level 1 profile.
After completing the 10th grade, the students can switch to the Max-Beckmann-Schule (upper level high school), which cooperates with the Georg Büchner School . From grade five, one class is currently taught bilingually in individual subjects - currently German-Spanish.
There are meeting trips with the partner school in Great Britain and a student exchange with Spain for the bilingual classes.
There is also a school dog project.
School grounds
The GBS site has 5 school buildings with class floors and team rooms. There are a total of three sports halls, one of which has a climbing wall. The school administration is housed in a new building that also houses modern science rooms and a large auditorium. There is also a green classroom, a school garden with a pond, and a spacious schoolyard with play and climbing frames.
School Chronicle
The Lord Mayor Werner Bockelmann opened the Kuhwaldschule in 1955. In 1968 the Kuhwaldschule and the Voltaschule become the additive comprehensive school called "Bockenheim-Süd". From the 1995/1996 school year, the elementary level will be established at the Georg Büchner School.
