Georg Bucher (born April 23, 1774 in Axams ; † August 18, 1837 there ) was a captain and major rifle in the so-called Tyrolean freedom struggle in 1809. He was called Dollinger Jörgele .

During the freedom struggle in 1809, he financed the delivery of food for the fighting Tyrolean troops, couriers and scouts, which cost him a fortune. In addition, he had to billet and feed Bavarian troops in his Gasthof Dollinger. The then imperial family of Austria honored his commitment with an annual gift of 150 guilders .

  • The western part of the main street in Axams is named after Georg Bucher .
  • At the Axams cemetery there is a memorial plaque with the inscription: "Georg Bucher, Dollinger landlord in Axams, rifle major and sub-commander of Andreas Hofer rests here in peace in the victorious and memorable battles on Mount Isel on April 12, May 29 and August 13 1809, holder of the gold medal of merit, born in Axams on April 23, 1774, died on August 28, 1837. Honor and glory for the brave leader! Established by the Innsbruck Veterans Association in 1897. "
  • The "Georg Bucher Schützenkompanie Axams" is named after Georg Bucher.
