Georg Ebertshäuser

Georg Ebertshäuser (* 1968 or 1969 ) is a German sinologist .

Ebertshäuser studied contemporary Sinology, Classical Chinese Philology and Political Science (with a focus on Chinese governance) at the University of Trier . In the fall of 1989 Georg Ebertshäuser went to Nanjing University for a year abroad as a DAAD scholarship holder . In 2001 Georg Ebertshäuser received his doctorate with a thesis on the political thinking of Gu Yanwu (1613–1682) and its influence on the emergence of modern China. During these years he took on his first teaching positions in Chinese literature, history and language.

Georg Ebertshäuser has been working in Sinology at the University of Frankfurt am Main since 2001, initially as a research assistant, and from 2007 as a substitute professor. In 2005 Georg Ebertshäuser re-established the association of the China Institute Frankfurt, which was founded in the 1920s and whose task it is to make scientific knowledge about China accessible to a broader interested public. Ebertshäuser headed the Frankfurt China Institute until 2007.

Since leaving the University of Frankfurt, Ebertshäuser has been running a consultancy on China in Frankfurt.

Ebertshäuser is married to a Chinese woman and has a daughter.
