Georg Jacobs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Jacobs (born July 20, 1962 in Bensberg ) is a German professor of mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University . He heads the Institute for Machine Elements and System Development (MSE). Since 2013, his responsibility as institute director has also extended to the newly founded Chair for Wind Power Drives at RWTH Aachen University. As spokesman for the board, he also works for the university's newly established Center for Wind Power Drives (CWD).

Live and act

Georg Jacobs studied mechanical engineering with a specialization in construction technology at RWTH Aachen University from 1983 to 1989. From 1989 to 1993 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Controls - IFAS formerly IHP, RWTH Aachen University. In 1993 he received the academic degree of Doctor of Engineering and was awarded the Borchers plaque from RWTH Aachen University. As chief engineer, he was a member of the institute's management from 1993 to 1996.

From 1996 to 1997, Professor Jacobs worked as the head of the development department for large presses and systems at Müller Weingarten AG, Weingarten. In 1997 he joined what was then Mannesmann Rexroth AG, where he headed technical sales in the industrial hydraulics division until 2001. Between 2001 and 2004 he was Technical Director of Brueninghaus Hydromatik GmbH in Ulm, a Bosch Rexroth AG company. As spokesman for the Drives product division within the Hydraulics division of Bosch Rexroth AG, he worked from 2005 to 2008 with particular responsibility for development and product management. Between 2006 and 2008, as a member of the Bosch Rexroth Hydraulics management team, he took over the development segment and the drives product area with particular responsibility.

In October 2008 Georg Jacobs was appointed to RWTH Aachen University. As before in industry, his research and development work at RWTH Aachen University focuses on drive technology and product development, particularly in the field of wind turbines and construction and agricultural machinery.

From 2012 to 2014 Georg Jacobs was Vice Dean for Structure and from 2014 to 2016 Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University. He introduced the position of full-time dean, to whom he then handed over his duties in the dean's office.

Georg Jacobs has been Professor and Institute Director at the Chair for Wind Power Drives at RWTH Aachen University and spokesman for the Board of Directors of the Center for Wind Power Drives (CWD), which he founded with six other colleagues, since 2013. The Center for Wind Power Drives (CWD) bundles research and development work on the subject of drive technology for wind turbines (WEA) at RWTH. At the beginning of 2016, Georg Jacobs also took over the management of the Institute for General Construction Technology in Mechanical Engineering (ikt) in order to more closely link the simulation models of drive design with the methods and processes of product development .

Memberships

Georg Jacobs has been a member of the Association of German Engineers since 1989 and a member of the Scientific Society for Product Development e. V. He is also a member of the technical and scientific advisory board of the journal "O + P" (since 2011), the editorial board of the journal "Friction" (since 2013), the advisory board of the State Key Laboratory for Tribology, China (since 2014) and on the scientific advisory board of Jenoptik AG (since 2016).

Publications

Editorships and conference management

Georg Jacobs has been the scientific director of the "Drive Technology Colloquium" (ATK) conference and editor of the accompanying proceedings since 2008. Since 2010 he has been the scientific director of the VDI conference “Drive Systems” and since 2013 the scientific director of the VDI specialist conference “Damage Mechanisms in Bearings”. Also since 2013, in his function as a member of the board of the Center for Wind Power Drives, he has been leading the “Conference for Wind Power Drives” (CWD) and is co-editor of the accompanying proceedings.
