Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Controls

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Systems (IFAS) , international Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Systems (IFAS) , is a teaching and research institute at RWTH Aachen University , which is one of the world's largest institutes of this type with research and teaching in In the field of fluid technology . This includes due to the increased complexity of the disciplines mechanical engineering , computer science , control engineering , electrical engineering , tribology and chemistry . These disciplines are subdivided into five specialist groups and 21 different research areas within IFAS. The institute's goals are research, development and teaching in the field of fluid technology. While research and development is supported by comprehensive technical equipment, teaching is based on the scripts by Hubertus Murrenhoff .

The institute was founded in 1968 under the name "Institute for Hydraulics and Pneumatics" (IHP) under the direction of Wolfgang Backé . In 1994 the institute was renamed "Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Controls (IFAS)", internationally "Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Controls (IFAS)" when Hubertus Murrenhoff took over the management of the institute. In March 2018, as part of the 11th International Fluid Power Colloquium in Aachen, the management of the institute was handed over to Katharina Schmitz and the associated renaming as Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Systems (IFAS), the international Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Systems.

IFAS is a member of the GFPS (Global Fluid Power Society).

In addition to the incumbent professor, the institute is managed by a senior engineer and a scientific director. The number of academic staff is regularly between 25 and 30 employees. These are supported by other "technical administrative staff" in the workshop and IT area and around 50 student assistants.

Tasks of the institute

In addition to research and development in the field of fluid technology, the tasks of the institute also include training students to become junior staff for the fluid technology industry.

Industrial partner

In addition to numerous public research contracts, IFAS cooperates with many industrial companies, including ABB , Ford , Audi , Bosch , the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology and VW, for example . Various lectures at the institute are also led by lecturers from the industrial environment.
