Sofía Ímber
Sofía Ímber Barú (born May 8, 1924 in Soroca , Kingdom of Romania , † February 20, 2017 in Caracas ) was a Venezuelan journalist , philanthropist and art patron of Romanian descent.
biography
Ímber was born in 1924 to the Jews Naum Ímber and Ana Barú in Soroca, a city in what is now Moldova . Her family emigrated to Venezuela in 1930 when she was four. She studied at the Universidad de los Andes . She was the founder of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas . She promoted the singing career of Soledad Bravo .
Her sister was Lya Imber , who became the first woman in Venezuela to graduate in medicine. Sofía Ímber had four children Sara, Adriana, Daniela and Pedro Guillermo. In 1944 she married the writer Guillermo Meneses . She later married the diplomat Carlos Rangel .
She died of heart failure in Caracas at the age of 92 .
