Georg Joseph
Georg Joseph (Latinized Georgius Josephus , * around 1620, † around 1668) was a German Baroque composer who was in the service of the Prince-Bishop of Wroclaw .
Life
In 1657 and 1668 Georg Joseph was the musical arranger of Johann Scheffler's sacred song collection Heilige Seelen-Lust or sacred shepherd songs of the psyche in love with Jesus . 184 of the 200 melodies with figured bass come from himself. With their text-interpreting, occasionally melismatic expressiveness, they belong to the genre of the baroque solo aria for the domestic musical practice of the nobility and bourgeoisie.
From Georg Joseph's melodies to texts by Johann Scheffler, numerous can be found in the Grüssau Passion Book Schmertzhaffter Lieb- und Creutz-Weeg , a devotional book published in 1682 by the Grüssau Abbot Bernhard Rosa .
Joseph's melodies for I want to love you, my strength and the morning star of the dark night are contained in Catholic church hymns ( Praise of God 358 and 372).
