Georg Mayr (City Councilor)

Georg Mayr (born October 29, 1912 in Augsburg ; † August 31, 1980 ibid) was a German local politician ( SPD ).

Career

Mayr completed his training as a weaver . At a young age he was active in the Socialist Workers' Youth and in the trade union. His political convictions led to several arrests during the Nazi era . After the end of World War II , he was a founding member of the local SPD association in Bärenkeller and was its chairman for 20 years. In 1964 Mayr initiated the establishment of a local workers' welfare association in the Bärenkeller, of which he became an assessor. In 1965 he started a senior citizens' club. From 1948 to 1978 he was a member of the Augsburg city ​​council . His commitment to the district earned him the reputation of "Mayor of the Bärenkeller".
