George Sarton Medal

The George Sarton Medal (George Sarton Medal) is the most internationally renowned award for outstanding achievements in the field of the history of science . It has been awarded by the History of Science Society (HSS) since 1955 . The society was founded in 1924 by George Sarton and Lawrence Joseph Henderson . Independently of this, the University of Ghent also awards a Sarton Medal.

The first medal was awarded to the namesake George Sarton in 1955, a year before his death.
