George Foster Peabody
George Foster Peabody (born July 27, 1852 in Columbus , Georgia , † March 4, 1938 in Warm Springs , Georgia, United States ) was a New York investment banker and patron.
He donated a large part of his fortune to charitable institutions, especially in the field of education and the arts. He was particularly interested in the university in his home state of Georgia, the development of which he supported with large sums of money. Another project that he realized with his business partner Spencer Trask and his wife Katrina (Peabody married Katrina after Spencer Trask's death) was the Yaddo artists' colony in Saratoga Springs, New York State. The George Foster Peabody Award is still an important prize in the field of wireless and cable media . This prize was first awarded in 1941 for outstanding performance in the broadcasting sector. In addition to the artistic content, important aspects of the award ceremony are new or alternative ways of distributing it.
