George Loewenstein (2012)

George Freud Loewenstein (born August 9, 1955 ) is an American economist and psychologist.

Loewenstein graduated from Brandeis University with a bachelor's degree in 1977 and received his PhD from Yale University in 1985, taught at the University of Chicago and is Herbert A. Simon Professor of Economics and Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). He is co-director of the Center for Behavioral Decision Research at CMU and director of behavioral economics at the Center for Health Incentives at the Leonard Davis Institute, University of Pennsylvania.

He deals with the application of psychology in economics (decision-making processes and influences on them such as emotions and conflicts of interest, negotiations, law and economics, business ethics) and is one of the founders of behavioral economics and neuroeconomics.

In 2017 he was one of the Clarivate Citation Laureates in Economics. He has been at the Wissenschaftskolleg Berlin, the London School of Economics , the Institute for Advanced Study and the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2008) and was President of the Society for Judgment and Decision Making .
