George Millay

George D. Millay ( July 4, 1929 - February 7, 2006 in San Diego , California ) was an American entrepreneur and founder of SeaWorld and Wet 'n Wild .

Millay started his career as a restaurant owner and always had the vision of founding an underwater zoo. He opened his first SeaWorld park in San Diego in 1964 with an orca named Shamu as an attraction. He later opened two more SeaWorld parks in Ohio in 1970 and Orlando in 1973. He also assisted in the development of Magic Mountain .

In 1977, Millay developed the Wet 'n Wild theme park in Orlando , Florida . Millay was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) in 1994 . Ten years later he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Waterpark Association . In 1998 he sold his company.

Millay died of lung cancer.
