George Moyers

George Moyers , DL , JP ( 1836 - December 4, 1916 in Monkstown , County Dublin ) was Mayor of Dublin in 1881 .

George Moyers was born in 1836 to William Moyers. After finishing school he attended Trinity College, Dublin . Moyers now decided to pursue the same profession as his father and accordingly attended an engineering school, where he received his Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1856 .

Moyers worked as an architect for EH Carson in Dublin and then went freelance in London . After the death of his father, he returned to Dublin and took over the company.

Keenly interested in local politics, he became a member of the Pembroke Township Commissioners in 1869 and played an active role in township administration for nearly a quarter of a century. In 1880, Moyers, who represented the South City Ward constituency on Dublin City Council, was elected Dublin Lord Mayor for 1881. He took office on January 1, 1881, replacing Edmund Dwyer Gray .
