George Smith (politician, before 1809)

George Smith was an American politician . Between 1809 and 1813 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Smith's birth and death dates are not recorded; the same applies to his place of birth and death. Nothing is known about his school education or professional career either. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic-Republican Party founded by the later US President Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s .

In the 1808 congressional election , Smith was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Daniel Montgomery on March 4, 1809 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1813 . These had been shaped by the events of the British-American War since 1812 .

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, his trail is lost.
