Daniel Montgomery
Daniel Montgomery, Jr. (born October 30, 1765 in Londonderry , Chester County , Province of Pennsylvania , † December 30, 1831 in Danville , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1807 and 1809 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Nothing is known about Daniel Montgomery's youth and schooling. In the 1790s he came to Danville, where he worked in commerce and became a wealthy businessman. Among other things, he ran a shop, a sawmill and a farm. He also founded several schools in Danville and the surrounding area. He also campaigned for the construction of toll roads in his homeland. He was also a member of the state militia, in which he was promoted to major general in 1809. Politically, he joined the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson in the late 1790s . In 1800 he was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
In the 1806 congressional election , Montgomery was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fifth constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Andrew Gregg on March 4, 1807 . Until March 3, 1809 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . In 1828 he became a sewer commissioner for the Pennsylvania state government. He died in Danville on December 30, 1831.
