Georges Duvaut

Georges Jean Duvaut (* 1934 ) is a French mathematician.

Life

Duvaut received his doctorate in 1969 under Paul Germain at the University of Paris VI (Pierre et Marie Curie) (Contribution a l'etude des ondes dans les materiaux elastiques non-lineaire). He was later a professor there.

He dealt with mathematical methods for continuum mechanics, for example nonlinear elasticity theory of compounds.

In 1978 he became a corresponding member of the Academie des Sciences .

He was a visiting scholar in Rio de Janeiro. In 1970 he was invited to speak at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Nice (Problèmes unilatéraux en mécanique des milieux continus).
