Georgi Franzewitsch Gause

Georgi Franzewitsch Gause ( Russian Георгий Францевич Гаузе ; born December 27, 1910 in Moscow , † May 4, 1986 in Moscow) was a Soviet microbiologist .

Life

His parents were Franz Gause , a professor of architecture at Lomonosov University , and Galina Gause. The family often spent their vacations in the Caucasus, where Georgi Gause developed his interest in biology and ecology. He studied biology at Lomonosov University and graduated in 1940. After graduation, he worked in research for new antibiotics and he discovered gramicidin S in 1944 while working with Bacillus brevis .
