Georgia O'Keeffe Museum
The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe , New Mexico , USA is a museum dedicated to the American artist Georgia O'Keeffe and her work , which provides an overview of the development of modern art in the USA from the end of the 19th century to to give today.
history
The private foundation for the construction and maintenance of the museum began in November 1995. The museum buildings were planned by the museum architect Richard Gluckman and the Allegretti architectural office from Santa Fe and completed in July 1997.
The museum's holdings initially comprised only 140 works of art by O'Keeffe, but until today (2012) it has been increased to over 1000 objects from the period 1902 to 1984 through gifts, purchases and loans, making it the largest permanent collection of her works worldwide.
Research Center
The museum supports scholarships at the Santa Fe-based research center , the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum Research Center , historians who study the history of art in American modernism, as well as staff who prepare and conduct exhibitions at the museum.
The research center started in July 2006 and has the museum's collections and library on the artist's Ghost Ranch about 20 minutes drive north of Abiquiú . The archive there contains all of O'Keeffe's personal belongings at the time of her death, including various documents, correspondence with her contemporaries and her work equipment and found objects.
Georgia O'Keeffe Foundation
The foundation and the museum management announced at the beginning of 2006 that all of the foundation's holdings from the artist's private home and studio in Abiquiú would be transferred to the museum. The transfer took place in mid-2006, and more than 600 works of art and extensive archive material were handed over.
