Gerald Kargl (* 1953 in Villach ) is an Austrian film director .

Live and act

After two short films and the short documentary Skiszenen mit Franz Klammer , which he had created together with the two Polish directors Zbigniew Rybczyński and Bogdan Dziworski in 1980, Kargl's only feature film was released in 1983 under the title Angst Kargl. In this, based on the events of Werner Kniesek , he placed a man (played by Erwin Leder ) in the foreground, who was released from prison for manslaughter after a ten-year prison term and shortly afterwards brutally murdered a family of three. The film went largely unnoticed and had too high a budget for its limited success, so that Kargl, who financed the film entirely himself, has not made another feature film since then. Nevertheless, fear developed into an insider tip over the years and was released on DVD in 2007 . The special thing about this film is that it was cut and edited according to the music. The music was not processed and used as a fashion accessory, but in a style-defining way. The soundtrack "Surrender", composed and played by Klaus Schulze , appeared on the album "Angst" (ID 20.003) recorded in INTEAM-Studio Oldau and released in March 1984.

Kargl devoted himself to advertising and educational films after fear . More recently, educational films with larger parts of computer animation have also been added, for example on relativity theory or quantum physics .

With Horst Dieter Sihler, he was the initiator of the “ Austrian Film Days ” in 1977 .
