Gerald Eustace Merlin (born August 3, 1884 in Athens , Greece , † April 7, 1945 in Mumbai , India ) was a British marksman .

successes

Gerald Merlin participated in the 1906 Olympic Intermediate Games in Athens and the 1908 Olympic Games in London . In 1906 he started in ten of the twelve competitions held and just missed a podium finish in fourth place with the dueling pistol. In the trap he scored as well as Ioannis Peridis 24 matches, so a jump-off had to decide about winning the competition. After both hit four goals, the decision was made in the second round of the jump-off, when Merlin hit four goals again, but Peridis only three. In the double trap he also won the bronze medal behind Sidney Merlin and Anastasios Metaxas . In 1908 he took 19th place in the trap - the only discipline in which he participated.

Merlin was born in Athens , where he also grew up. Since his parents were British, however, he was eligible to start for the United Kingdom at the Olympic Games. It is commonly believed in the literature that Gerald and Sidney Merlin were related, but the exact degree of relatedness is unclear.
