NGC 1546 is a lenticular galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Dorado in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 50 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light-years across . It is a member of the five-galaxy NGC 1553 group ( LGG 112 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1549 , NGC 1553 , IC 2058 , IC 2060 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on December 5, 1834 .
