NGC 1556 is a spiral dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type Sab in the constellation Dorado in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 37 million light years from the Milky Way and about 15,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by John Herschel on December 28, 1834 .
