NGC 1580 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 187 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies NGC 1600 , NGC 1601 , IC 372 , IC 373 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Édouard Stephan on January 18, 1877 .
